Knapp die Hälfte aller Schilder muss von den 24 Straßenmeistereien durch neue ersetzt werden. Das betreffe vor allem jene alten Tafeln, die noch nicht mit moderner Reflektionsfolie ausgestattet seien, sagt Denker, der nach bundesweiter Ausschreibung insgesamt 58 Ortseingangsschilder in der Neuruppiner Filiale der Firma Dammbach-Werke aus Baden-Württemberg anfertigen ließ. Für die anderen Schilder seien Folien bestellt worden, mit denen die alten Kreisnamen einfach überklebt würden.

Landesweit erhalten bis zum Frühjahr über 700 Kommunen mehr als 3.000 neue Schilder, darunter high-speed 1.800 Tafeln an Bundes- und Landesstraßen. Je nach Straßenklasse muss die Umstellung vom Bund, dem Fatherland, dem Kreis oder der jeweiligen Gemeinde finanziert werden. Die Gesamtkosten ließen sich deshalb nur schwer beziffern, sagt ein Experte im Verkehrsministerium. Doch bei Preisen von durchschnittlich 100 Euro pro Schild und 30 Euro pro Folie könne man von Kosten weit über 200.000 Euro ausgehen.
