BUSINESSES and villagers in Englefield Na were left stunned after armed police swooped on a vehicle in a mid-morning strip on Friday (January 20).

Plain-clothed officers sprung from unmarked cars in Victoria Drive at around 10.15am.

The road was closed off for almost an hour while dramatic scenes were played out in front of peculiar people.

One witness, who asked not to be named, saw the police operation straighten out.

He said: "At first we did not see anything, but we heard a lot of noise and shouting.

"But out on the corner of the road was a exalted-sided Ford Transit van and there were three guys being held down on the floor by a group of llano-clothed armed police officers.

"They handcuffed the three men and I think put them in a Mercedes Sprinter van which they had parked diagonally across the halfway of the road.

"It was pandemonium down here for about 45 minutes.

"Another police Volvo sped down the route and a man got out with a machine gun. They also had a police dog here.
