I am first time boater wanting to go from freeport ny to hudson river on my rinker 230 bowrider.?

I am the first permanent boaters who want to go from NY to Freeport Hudson River on my Rinker 230 bowrider.
What are the dangers hsould I fel off ... I do have a card reader ... roll with a side to install ... have a handheld VHF radio.
I like to make a fixed VHF as your handheld does not have the receipt to keep track of traffic in the port of New York. Keep track of what vessels are in the area that you may encounter. You will not be very visible for commercial vessels unless it is very quiet.
