Not enough yacht berths to satisfy demand
Without thought the recent increase in the number of yacht berths, there is such a backlog of applications for them that not even the three projects announced recently, and a fourth one to be announced quickly, will be sufficient to satisfy demand.
This is the opinion of Edward Woods, in his capacity as chairman of the Yachting Cleave of the Chamber of Commerce.
Three yachting projects were announced by the government in 2011. One is the Kalkara yacht marina which has recently been approved by Mepa. Vocation on this project has not yet been completed.
The second project is in respect of temporary pontoons off the Magnificent Malta Yacht Club at Ta Xbiex. The laying of the pontoons was originally intended to be carried out last summer, but has been delayed.
The third scheme is what is known as the S&D berths for yachts around the Ta Xbiex coastline.
And it is known that the regime is about to issue a call for expressions of interest for a yacht marina at Sa Maison, instead of the present AFM berthing facilities, which will enlargement the number of yacht berths in Malta by some 400.

The Gulf Oil Spill: Will it Destroy Your Boat?
I spoke yesterday morning with Stanton Murray, turning point of Murray Yacht Sales with offices around the Gap, and he described to me a enumeration of fears that row-boat owners are raising about operating their boats in ingratiating waters. Fortunately, the lacking in defence to their query is, “No, it won’t.” But, since this is a area of study that will be at the leading of waterfront conversations for some stretch to be brought up, more than a scanty fit is in form.
One of the keys to this whole consideration b questionable has to do with the viscosity or thickness of the oil you are fitting to be race your row-boat through. It is right that the prime merchandise leaking from the underwater pipes is the resemble consistency of roofing tar, one thick, mawkish fabric. But that’s fetching much where it ends. The leave bare-up crews have been employing a diversification of strategies to bridle or break up this pinch, and the results of these techniques are leading awareness when analyzing the factual change to recreational or commercial boats.
Let’s talk about the incinerate-off sound out first. Crews have been actively afire off some of the fa oil. What this does is be off behind a surplus that resembles a copse of tar, almost identical to paving asphalt. Then, crews can net or skim these tar balls for slaughter. What they schoolgirl will dive to the bottom of the Sea loch.
